Norway wore “Respect on and off the pitch” t shirts before the match to show their concern for human rights in Qatar. Apparently 6,500 migrant workers have died there since they were awarded the World Cup in 2010.

FIFA should show some class and change the hosts to North Korea, or somewhere else less scummy.

International football is generally shit. But you know what was great? No fucking VAR! No imaginary lines , five minute hold ups. A ref making calls and everyone just getting on with it

We should not confuse the World cup projects with general building in Qatar - a few years ago we bid for all of the metro,l it was a JV between Ansaldo, CAF and CH2M

Generally the world cup projects had good safety records it was local contractors where t5he death happened

Anyone know what happened to Conor Coventry for the Republic yesterday, not even on the 12 man bench. I've tried asking Ex but he is to busy with his money making Podcast.

Assume they took a very big squad away due to COVID but disappointing for CC.
Was thinking of watching but binned that once he wasnt in the squad.
Noone watches ROI unless forced to

New manager seems a bit simple
No wins in his first 9 and yesterday broke a run of 7 scoreless games.

Re: World Cup Qualifiers
You are thinking of Oceania
Australia is in the qualifying section of the most populous region in the world ... Asia
Currently in their second group league having started qualification in June 2019.
Then go to a third round where the top two of two groups of six qualify
Or maybe a fourth round where someone qualifies for a playoff against another confederation.

Re: World Cup Qualifiers
Haven't seen Iran but Japan & S Korea are definitely the best teams in the region. Teams like Iran & the Middle East / Asian teams tend to schedule games for when it is 40 degrees & 100% humidity.
Not sure Australia are any better than in 2018 hopefully can avoid those two.
Have been on a fairly downward path since 2006 & the days of Kewell, Viduka, Schwartzer etc

Re: World Cup Qualifiers
I think Oran have Azmoun amd Taremi up front who would be a cut about most players in that whole lot other than Son, so will always fancy getting goals.

And watching this U21 game, England really need to hope there is another set of players coming through, as hardly any of this mob are above championship level.

Rossal 5:47 Thu Mar 25
Re: World Cup Qualifiers
Very very poor from England U21s, i stick the blame with the manager as he has the players to bear Switzerland.

Lines up with 2 bang average defensive centre mids when he would be expecting to have most the ball. Created very little all game, put the blame on Aidy Boothroyd 100%

Re: World Cup Qualifiers
Yeah, I think NZ now have the free pass into a playoff with an Asian team now, don't they? After beating a bunch of sides who don't wear boots by 10-15 goals.

Sven Roeder 7:39 Thu Mar 25
Re: World Cup Qualifiers
No, that isnt quite correct
The winner of the Oceania group goes in the hat with an Asian team, a North American team and a South American team.
Drawn into two two-legged finals and the winners qualify.

In the latter period of Australia's time in Oceania it was a knockout against a South American team.
They needed to beat Uruguay (on pens) to qualify in 2006.
The previous time they ended up losing 2-1 over two legs to the DRUGGED UP Diego MARADONA & Argentina.
As soon as they left Oceania FIFA gave that confederation a straight entry as winner so NZ (incl W Reid) qualified in 2010.
Thats stopped now as obviously the right brown paper bags havent been provided.

That reads like a joke format Sven son.......

Sven Roeder 7:51 Thu Mar 25
Re: World Cup Qualifiers
It does
I dont think Oceania deserves to have an automatic qualifier and should probably be combined into the Asian group.
Its a balance of wanting the WORLD cup to have countries from every part of the world and having worse teams qualifying ahead of better teams.

The European groups also have too many shit teams and there should be pre-qualifying to reduce the numbers.
England playing San Marino is just a joke
Them and the likes of Andorra, Faroes , Liechtenstein etc should play a mini tournament and one country should be in the main draw.
